chomsky on human destiny

"the question in brief is whether democracy and freedom are values to be preserved or threats to be avoided

in this possibly terminal phase of human existence, democracy and freedom are more than values to be treasured; they may well be essential to survival"

When was this speech given? A bit depressing....but looks like he is right on most counts.

I also wonder if the older someone as educated as him gets, the more cynical he/she gets?

A year or two back, there was some story about a lifelong atheist (I think he was British) becoming a theist in his final years!

i'm not sure when it was given

i'm sure some people get more cynical as they get older and wiser, i think i probably will, but i doubt that's the case for everyone

there are stories of lifelong atheist or physicists becoming religious because they get to a point beyond which then can't find answers so they turn to religion

not many stories of people going the other way
